Dental Clinic
The Dental Clinic at Kelowna’s Gospel Mission provides necessary dental care to individuals who are experiencing dental pain or infection, and who cannot afford treatment in a private clinic.
We serve low income families and seniors, those on assistance as well as the homeless and working poor. Untreated dental problems become increasingly painful until they affect one’s health and well-being.
How it all began:
- 2001 – Ad-hoc committee forms
- 2003 – Gospel Mission steps forward as host agency and applies for funding through federal homelessness initiative
- June, 2004 – clinic opens two evenings a month dealing with pain and infection control (extractions) Staff: part-time clinic coordinator and volunteer dentists and CDAs
- June, 2008 – partnership formed with UBC Dental Residency Program to have four two-week rotations of dental residents to practice at the clinic and begin doing restorative work and basic dental care for those in need within the Kelowna area
- June, 2009 – partnership with UBC expanded and clinic becomes one of their full-time clinics
During the year each Dental Resident spends 5 weeks working at our clinic. To get to know the current Resident on rotation simply click here.
